PATTI SMITH HORSES (33 1/3) A strange collision of high art and mass culture The famous music book series "33 1/3" continues to offer us new titles also in Greek through Oxy publications. Philip Shaw's book on Patti Smith's album Horses is in series.Having bohemianly plowed the streets of New York in her black coat and her poems, Patti Smith, that androgynous, scruffy figure with the unwavering gaze and adoration for Rimbaud, led in 1975 to the creation and recording of her first album, Horses. It is an album overflowing with emotion, originality and personal references, but also an album that opened a whole new scene in the field of music as well as of female expression – if not of no gender artistic interpretation – giving the pure rock expression of the era in the chaotic jumble that would give birth, in those days, to punk. Philip Shaw is an associate professor of English at the University of Leicester and a writer. The foreword of the book is signed by the journalist, radio producer and translator Yiannis Nenes. Within the framework of the internationally loved book series "33 1/3", which is published in Greek by Oxy publications in collaboration with Avopolis.gr, landmark records are presented of world music. The series is edited by journalist and music producer Makis Milatos.
