The Upanishads are the sacred Hindu texts that accompany the Vedas, the sacred Sanskrit scriptures, condensing their meaning into a form of philosophical teaching – which is why they are also known as 'Vedanta', meaning the 'end' or 'ultimate goal' of of wisdom (Veda means "wisdom"). And what does ancient Hindu teaching consist of? In nothing other than man's mission to get rid of all the "artificialities" of this world (longevity, wealth, sterile mental function, etc.) and through the superlative knowledge of the self to unite with the divine consciousness, the one that permeates and constitutes the entire universe: "Man who has a form dies, but not that which dwells in him".
